Western Australian Steam - The South Western Corner
The lines in the remote areas of the Western Australia Government Railways' system presented operational challenges in maintaining fuel and water supplies for steam locomotives. The withdrawal of steam from these areas commenced with the introduction of the X-class mainline diesels in 1954 and by the late 1950's, steam was largely confined to the more temperate south western corner of the state.
